Ragdoll cat is one of the largest cat species in the world, this cat was originally developed by a cat breeder named Ann Baker who came from California, United States. Ragdoll Cat History
Ann Baker was a Persian cat breeder, borrowed a black male cat to his neighbor Mrs. Pennels. Black male cat named Blackie has a physical like the Persian cat, Blackie has a parent named Josephine. Josephine was a cat which has physical as angora cat. One day, Josephine was hit by a car until he lay in the street. Then Josephine was taken to an animal hospital for treatment. Josephine apparently lost an eye, Josephine treated until cured. After recovering, Josephine returned to normal conditions to get pregnant and give birth, but there are different from Josephine, its nature changed. It became quieter and immune from the disease. With this change, Ann Baker became increasingly interested in this pet cat. Until finally Ann Baker intends to develop offspring of Josephine.
Josephine also has other male descendants named Daddy Warbucks of different male offspring with Blackie’s father. And Ann Baker also often borrowsDaddy Warbucks. Ann Baker interbred of the three cats (Blackie, Josephine & Daddy Warbucks). Until finally, Ann Baker gained Race of Ragdoll Cats. According to some information, from these three cats there was a gene of Persian cats, Burmese cats, and Birman Cats.
Ragdoll cat was continued to be bred by Ann Baker, and in 1971 he set up a special organization for Ragdoll cat fans are still standing today. Until one day there are a couple that bought a pair of Ragdoll who intends to make standard and stabilize the genetic nature of Ragdoll Cats to be accepted by all cat associations fans.
Through the rigorous breeding program, finally produced a standard nature of these Ragdoll Cats. After the organization of Ragdoll Fanciers Club International (RFCI) was formally established. The organization aims to create rules and guidelines for the Ragdoll cat breeders. It also aims to promote Ragdoll cats throughout the world.
Physical characteristics and personality of the Ragdoll Cat
Ragdoll cat has a great body, supported by a balanced weight, chest width, and a big pelvis. Male Ragdoll cats can weigh 6-10 kg or more, and females Ragdoll cats are usually smaller than males with an average weight of 5-7.5 kg. Ragdoll cats, including the big and benign, has a medium long hair, fur with a texture like rabbit fur, a Ragdoll does not require combing hair every day because of its self grooming is pretty good. Ragdoll cat is also highly adaptable and familiar with humans.
Ragdoll cats have the same color with the Siamese and Himalayan cats, which have a color pattern “point”??. However Ragdoll Cats have 4 color patterns, bicolor, mitted, van, and a point, its point is solid colors, lynx and tortie. Due to their bulky approaching a puppy, Ragdoll cat also has the nickname “Puppy Cat”.
