Mazda 2 Sedan Review : Design, Specs and Pictures
Mazda 2 Sedan or better known as the Demio in Japan are designed for consumers who demand the appearance of a car with an active and dynamic style. It is seen from the front to the B pillar that forms flowing lines with a high position. From the side looks Mazda 2 Sedan is always ready for the shot. Have the same width with the hatchback (1,695 mm), the Mazda 2 sedan is 331 mm longer and 2 mm lower. Both also stand on the same ground clearance, which is 152 mm, but the wheelbase’s Sedan is 3 mm longer than the hatchback.
Design
With a weight of 1,079 kg (13 kg heavier than the hatchback version), Mazda 2 Sedan apply tech steering system EPAS (electric power steering assistance). With a turning radius of 4.9 m, is quite helpful when being reversed course and on the limited parking area. Mazda 2 Sedan also uses “ultra-lightweight high-tensile steel” technology which produces a light weight but strong vehicle. Fuel use was more efficient and lower exhaust emissions.
For safety features, the Mazda 2 Sedan features “Mazda advanced impact absorption system distribution” (MAIDAS) which absorb energy in a collision. That plus two front airbags (R version), ABS (antilock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), and BA (brake assist). In addition, there are lights and sound warning to the safety belt is not installed. Unfortunately, no automatic door locking when the car is running. Needs to be done manually by pressing the locking knob on the door trim.
One smart thing of the Mazda 2 Sedan, which is the position of the AC drainage. Normally this channel is under the engine. However, the Mazda 2 Sedan, hose water droplets placed right under the front passenger seat. As a result, water droplets do not tend to damage the chassis due to corrosion.
Interior
The unique thing of the interior is a drawer on the dashboard. If the drawer normally be closed, on this car, passengers can directly insert stuff into it without having to open it. Therefore, Mazda provides a gap for that. Another interesting design and fresh indicated by the large circle in the center console that serves as home audio with integrated head unit. The entertainment center is able to accommodate 6-CDs, plays MP3 and iPod connection (socket located near the handbrake lever).
Interestingly, the audio features include ALC (automatic level control) that make setting the audio volume according to the vehicle speed and engine hum. The ALC has a 7-level sensitivity. Multifunction buttons on the steering wheel gives practicality to adjust the audio volume, audio mode, audio options (setting radio or CD), turn off sound (mute), and MID (multi information display). MID Features record fuel consumption, mileage refueling, air temperature, and speed alarm setting.
Shape windshield gives the driver and front passenger wide viewing area. In addition, the driver’s seat is height adjustable. Noted, maximum head room of at least 88 cm and 90 cm. This is done by pulling or pressing the lever located on the right side under the seat. Trunk volume capacity of 450 liters (200 liters bigger) than the hatchback version. With a 60:40 seat folding system, luggage capacity can be increased 1.5 times or as needed. A small bulge, just below the windshield, parallel to the rear passengers, has a function as sun light sensor. Combined with an interior temperature sensor (three line holes) under the steering wheel, the two are integrated for temperature adjustment in the cabin. Besides, Mazda 2 Sedan has a silence that is better than its rivals.
Performance
Compensate for beautiful design, the Mazda 2 Sedan is equipped with a coded MZR engine, 4-cylinder, DOHC, 16 valve tech sequential valve timing (S-VT) and electronic throttle control (ETC). On the engine capacity of 1498 cc, 103 hp power generated at 6,000 rpm and 135 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
The power is channeled via a 4-speed automatic transmission. The combination of the engine and the transmission is able to launch the Mazda 2 Sedan for 0-100 kph in 13.1 seconds and 0-402 meter acceleration in 19.1 seconds with a speed of 121 kph.
Unfortunately, the record is still below the performance of the Honda City and Toyota Vios we’ve tested before. To 0-100, City recorded 12.3 seconds, and Toyota Vios recorded 12.6 seconds. As for the acceleration of 0-402 meters, City chalked 18.6 seconds with a speed of 123.2 seconds and Toyota Vios record of 19.0 seconds with a speed of 120.8 kph.
Mazda 2 Sedan cover weaknesses acceleration with better braking. To 80-0 kph, the car recorded 27.2 meters in 2.5 seconds, while the City recorded 28.5 meters in 2.5 seconds, and Vios recorded 27.5 meters in 2.7 seconds. At the time of testing, the track in dry conditions.
Control
The series of steering and wheels provide excellent control for road conditi
ons in the city. Moving the car’s nose toward the gap that we want is a fun activity, thanks to the accuracy of the wheel. For this matter, the character of the Mazda 2 Hatchback smaller stature has apparently contagious.
For testing outside the city, driving the Mazda 2 Sedan fairly satisfactory. Minimal body roll during cornering and steering wheel high accuracy is highly value. Not only that, the stability at high speeds fairly well. Wind from larger vehicles do not make the car swerved.
Horn also has the right sound: “friendly” and not too noisy but easily heard by other motorists. Hooter play was so easy to do, because the button is pressed tasty. This is to signify our existence in between cars and motorcycles in the streets. Our salvation was more secure.
