Mei-ling Palace, The Beauty That Looks Like A Necklace Of Emerald Eyed
When viewed from a height, green-roofed palace looks like a giant emerald in a string necklace. Lush trees that shaded path leading to it looks like a gold necklace that lay in the hills. This is Mei-ling Palace, the tiny castle was owned by the former president of China, Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Mei-ling.
Reporting from Amusing Planet, Mei-ling Palace is located on the Mount Xiaohong, the eastern part of the city of Nanjing. Formerly, this place is a vacation home for Chiang and his wife before fleeing to Taiwan in 1949. The palace was built between 1931-1934. Soong Mei-ling’s name is used as the first lady often visited there when in Nanjing.
For several decades, the building was converted into a guesthouse country status. But Mei-ling Palace closed to the public until two years ago. In 2012, Mei-ling Palace are managed by the Foundation Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum that houses the other historic buildings in China. The foundation is doing a massive renovation of May-ling Palace.
Regarding its shape that resembles a diamond necklace, office director of the bureau of cultural relics management of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Scenic Area, it was an accident. Now, Mei-ling Palace became one of the most visited tourist spots in Nanjing. Since opening in October 2013, tens of thousands of people have visited the palace.
