Boldt Castle, A Magnificent Palace So Silent Witness To The Tragic Love Story

This magnificent castle that stands in the middle of this tiny island looks like a castle in a fairy tale, is not it? Unfortunately, behind the beauty of the castle there is a love story that ended sadly. Boldt Castle, located on Heart Island, in the Thousand Islands region, the State of New York. This castle is one of the major tourist attractions in the region.

The building was built at the request of George Boldt, general manager at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York and the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel, Philadelphia. The building was made for his beloved wife, namely Louise Kehrer Boldt.

The building was planned to consist of six floors, complete with golf courses, tennis courts, stables, and a polo field for children. But then Louise Kehrer died in 1904.

Feeling sad after left by his wife, Boldt stopped the construction of the castle. According to the official website of Boldt Castle, Boldt even ignores the building that was going to be a palace of the love with his wife. As a result, the castle was abandoned for 73 years.

In 1977, The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority took over Heart Islands and the entire property is in place with the price of one dollar. But with the agreement that the castle will be used as tourist attractions and the income derived from the operation of the castle will be used entirely for the renovation of Boldt Castle.
