The Maine Coon cat is a domestic cat that originated from the region of Maine, United States. This cat is the largest cat species among the other cats, Maine Coon male cat can weigh 9-13 pounds and can reach 120 centimeters in length. This big cat is quite indifferent to its owner, but can be a good friend of the owner.
This big cat is quite popular because of their bulky size, many cat lovers who have kept this one kind of cat. Maine coon cat is one of the biggest cats in the world. This cat is a breed of native race cats and not the result of cross breeding cats. The Maine Coon is also known as an American longhair cat.
The characteristics of Maine Coon cats :
- Body, Maine coon cat has a great body, tall, solid, muscular and has a large bone structure.
- Fur, these cats have thick fur, shiny and waterproof. Its fur is thick in the legs, neck, and abdomen.
- Head, medium-sized and wide, slightly curved forehead, prominent cheekbones.
- Nose, large and wide, sharp.
- Eyes, this cat have big eyes and slightly oval, will look round when its eyes wide open.
- Ear, ears look wide at the bottom, the edges taper, inside its ears covered with long fur, and as well as having sharp hearing.
- Feet, has a large bone, medium-sized.
- Tail, can reach a length of about 36 cm, slender, and long-haired, almost resembling a raccoon’s tail.
Maine Coon Cats can adapt to extreme weather. Its fur protects the body from the snow and cold temperatures. Large and muscular body is very suitable to be a hunter in the wild. Male adult Maine Coon cat usually has a weight 6-13 kg with a body length of 120 cm, while the females Maine Cone cats are usually smaller with weight 4-6 kg. With feathers that can reach a length of 7 cm, Maine coon cat looks very big.
