Labrador Retriever Dog : Characteristics, Temperament and Exercise
There are two types of Labrador retrievers, the English Labrador and the American Labrador. English Labrador dogs are from the UK, the general appearance is different. Has a heavier body, thicker and fuller. While the American Labrador Dog originated from the Americas, with a tall and thin appearance.
Labrador dogs generally have the following characteristics :
- A big head and wide muzzle.
- Its body is longer than its tall.
- Its fur is short, rigid and waterproof, black, yellow or brown.
- Its double coat is smooth and not bumpy.
- Having a medium-sized eyes.
- Labrador dog legs look strong and compact with webbed feet, which help this dog while swimming.
Temperament :
As one of the most popular dogs in America, Labrador retriever has a loyal nature, affectionate and patient, making it very suitable as a family dog. High intelligence, good-natured, and very keen to please men, making them a top choice for working dogs. Labradors love to play, especially in water, never want to miss a chance to swim. The Labrador retriever has a very good temperament, trustworthy, friendly, friendly with children and can be friendly with other dogs. Labrador dogs need human leadership and feel that they are part of the family. This purebred dog very easily trained and better if trained from childhood. Adult Labrador dogs are very strong, train them from childhood not to venture out the door or fence before the owner came out.
Labrador retriever dogs can become destructive if the owner is not 100% pack leader or if they do not get a physical and mental exercise adequate. English Labrador dog more calm and relaxed than the American Labrador dogs. In addition, English Labrador dogs also became mature quicker than the American Labrador Dog.
Height and Weight :
- Height: Males 56-61 cm, females 53-58 cm.
- Weight: Males 27-34 kg, females 25-32 kg.
Some male Labrador dog can reach a weight of 45 kg or more.
Health Issues :
Susceptible to elbow and hip dysplasia, PRA and eye disorders.
Physical Exercise :
Labrador Retrievers are energetic dogs, delighted to work and play. They need to be taken every day for walking, jogging or running long beside you while cycling. While walking along, the dog should be beside or behind you. You as the leader, so that the dog thinks that the leader who led the way and the leader is human. Weight of the Labrador Retriever dog is very easy to ride, and therefore do not give them excessive food.

Grooming / dog care:
Fur short, smooth and double coat like a Labrador dog is very easy to maintain. Brush and comb regularly with a firm bristle brush. Bathe or dry shampoo only when necessary. This purebred dog has a medium level of hair loss.
Origin :
The Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. Labradors are from Newfoundland, where the dog is working to help fishermen to catch fish that escaped from the mesh and trained to jump into the cold water to help pull the nets. The specimens were brought to England in the 1800’s by British ships coming from Labrador. This breed crossed with the type of Setter, Spaniel, and other types of retrievers to improve their instincts as a hunter. Labradors are very easy to train and are not only well known as a friend of the family, but also excel in hunting, tracking, retrieving, watchdog dogs, police dogs, drug detection, guiding the blind and the disabled, search and rescue, transport, agility and obedience competitions.
