Gateshead Millennium Bridge Design and Pictures
Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a bridge for cyclists and pedestrians that spans over the Tyne river in the UK. Interestingly, this bridge has been named as a bridge with the most extreme slope in the world. You can prove it by looking at the photo below.
This Gateshead Millennium Bridge essentially includes two curves, one forming the deck and the other one supports the other. Because of its shape when viewed from above looks like a blinking eye, the bridge is often called the Blinking Eye Bridge or the Winking Eye Bridge. This bridge, as reported by Amusingplanet.com, usually rotates by 40 degrees per 45 minutes or depending on wind speeds.
So cool, this Gateshead Millennium Bridge also won several awards, such as Wilkinson Eyre the 2002 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize, the 2003 Gifford IStructE Supreme Award, and in 2005, the Outstanding Structure Award from the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE).
