Karachay is the name of a small lake located in the southern Urals, Russia. Since 1951, the Soviet Union had used Karachay as a dumping ground for radioactive waste. That’s why the lake is filled with high concentrations of toxic materials.  Because Lake Karachay already heavily contaminated with radioactive waste, Worldwatch Institute based in Washington, DC described as the most polluted places on earth.
