Honda Accord 2.4 Review : Design, Interior, Performance and Control
The design of the eighth generation Honda Accord was performed quite differently than previous generations. Overall, the design of this car looks boxy. This happens because the Accord has two design models: one model for Japan, China and Europe, while the other models for the North American and Asia-Pacific. Honda Accord models sold in Singapore are the second model. In other words, this model is also introduced by Honda to countries like Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
New Honda Accord, with a longer wheel axis 30 mm and whole body increased to 80 mm from the seventh generation, the Accord cabin expands to 35 mm (front and back). These dimensional changes, increased the saloon class from mid-size to be full-size, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in which the rules: the car with the wheel axis more than 2,790 (Accord 2,800 mm) and a length of about 5,000 mm (Accord 4,935 mm) is the minimum criteria for the full-size class.
New Full Size Accord brought the concept of ‘Bigger, Better, Bolder’. That is, this car has a large space, powerful engine, and a design that is more impressive than his rival. Look at how the dimensions of this sedan look great with a length of 4,935 mm, width 1,845 mm, height 1,476 mm. Or in other words, the longer 110 mm, width 25 mm, and 6 mm higher than his nearest rival, the Toyota Camry.
Indeed, the New Honda Accord is a refinement of the 2008 edition (the first year of the eighth generation raised). However, the design of the front grille and bumper, made more elegant. Indentation above the chrome grille and grille made thicker. Velg design changed from 8-multi-spoke, into 10-multi-spoke. While fixed size of 17 inches, and dated by the Michelin Energy 225/50R17 tires.
Honda implements sloping dashboard with three steps. The first steps are used to store the airbag, while the second and third steps over to the complementary ornaments. With this concept, the dashboard looks relieved and feels spacious driving view. For passive safety devices, available dual SRS airbags and side airbags, plus dual safety belt pretensioners and active headrests.
Leather layer wraps all the seats and door trim. At the front, mounted power seat, complete with power lumbar support (adjustable back pad electrically). Clad wooden fascia panels are quite wide, separating the driver and front passenger. Meanwhile, the cluster center is filled with a variety of buttons for the audio and air conditioning.
Special note is given for this, where Honda should carefully integrating all the buttons, so it seemed more minimalist. See, how the function key for FM radio, AM, CD, AUX, TITLE and CLOCK are made separately, so it takes up less space. Similarly, the large AC button. Meanwhile, on the fascia screen just not much information is displayed. Only available audio status, position of air conditioners, as well as the clock. Fuel consumption data or residual fuel and cruising range is not listed here.
This deficiency is then covered with a variety of practical features. One of them, paddle shift, where the feature is already to be found in the Honda Jazz and Honda City, the products are much cheaper than the Honda Accord. Then, cruise control on the right side of the steering wheel. While the audio controls on the steering wheel which was formerly part of the left, has now moved to the rear. It is hidden in the middle of the rear seat backrest.
Other cabin features for added convenience: dual-zone air conditioning, rear air conditioning vents, and electric rear glass curtain. Meanwhile, to add to the pleasure of hearing the audio, available speed-sensitive volume compensation (SVC), which automatically adjusts the audio volume according to the speed of the car.
Cardiac pacemaker carries gasoline, 4-cylinder, 2.4-liter, DOHC, mechanical spec Accord (180 HP and 225NM of torque) is greater than the Camry 2.4L (167 HPand 224 mm). However, smaller than the Nissan Teana (182 HP and 228 mm), which put a 2.5 liter V6 engine.
Treat 5-speed automatic transmission in D mode is able to launch Accord smoothly. When the accelerator pedal is applied, acceleration 0-100 kph in 12.6 seconds can be reached. As for the acceleration 0-402 meters, Accord needs 18.6 seconds at a speed of 128.4 kph. Move to the S mode, it is suitable for us who love the adrenaline flow and the change gear a little bit of jerking, given the red line is set higher. Performance 0-100, recorded 12.0 seconds and 0-402 meters in 17.8 seconds at 129.2 kph speed at the finish line.
Enable the paddle shift behind the steering wheel, and the Honda Accord will thrust performance gear 2 and gear 3 to the fullest. This is evident from the difference in record time given, while the speed in gear. The series of intermediate 60-80 kph acceleration of 2.9 seconds and 80-100 carrying kph in 3.5 seconds.
Looks like, the Honda Accord is designed for those who love to drive. The electric chair arrangement provides an easy driving position. In addition, the shape of the steering wheel quite tasty held: not many ornaments on the steering wheel, except the cruise control. Distribution of weights is also fairly good. It is evident from the accuracy and movement of the steering wheel when rotated. Although only rely on conventional power steering, hydraulic system, but its accuracy is equal electric steering control.
On the highway, the Honda Accord is “mighty” easy to drive. The bow does not interrupt the motion of the car when cornering. Installed at the base of the suspension strut bar with a large enough size, proved to give a substantial contribution to the control. Having a lock-to-lock 2.5 turns, the steering wheel is also agile in urban traffic.
This car is also equipped with shift hold control (SHC) on the transmission. Specifically, when the car was about cornering, the transmission will automatically down from 5 to 4 when the gas pedal is lifted. The computer will then calculate based on the momentum of the car, on the level of the ideal gear. Then, maintaining the position of the gear. Thus, the car did not lose power when out of the corner.
